Remembrance Route

The Remembrance Route 1940-1944 is a poignant journey based on primary research concerning the Third Cemetery of Athens and its multifaceted role during that period. This research draws from archival and bibliographic sources, as well as an initial on-site survey of the cemetery’s expansive area. It is dedicated to those who did not make it, who did not live to witness the liberation from the German occupying forces, including the war dead, the executed, and the victims of bombing.

In particular, it honours the anonymous victims of hunger and its consequences during the harsh winter of 1941-42, for whom there has been no lasting memorial in the cemetery until now.
