The legendary building of Akadimias Street, which housed the National Opera House for more than 50 years, has now become the Municipal Music Theatre of Athens. A new era has begun for the Olympia Theatre, and the city itself since Athens has eventually acquired its own municipal theatre, the Olympia Municipal Music Theatre “Maria Callas”.
The Musical Ensembles of the Municipality of Athens, the Symphony Orchestra, the Choir, the Greek Music Workshop, the Big Band and the Philharmonic Orchestra can finally welcome their audience at a historic venue offering excellent concert experiences through collaborations with outstanding artists, promising thus to delight even the most demanding listeners of all musical genres.
The new Municipal Theatre of Athens, the emblematic cultural venue with its long and rich history, is re-established in the city’s cultural scene, promoting contemporary culture, supporting young creators, and cultivating effective collaborations.
The Olympia Theatre is currently hosting in the renovated foyer of the first floor the first permanent exhibition on Maria Callas in Greece, with personal objects and documents from the life and work of the great opera diva.
