Music tragedy in two acts with intermezzo (in concert form)
Based on Nikos Kazantzakis’ tragedy, “The Master Builder” is one of the most characteristic examples of writing by Manolis Kalomiris. The tragedy, infused with powerful symbolism at the political, cultural and ideological levels, was first presented in 1916, reflecting the turbulent historical period in which it was written. At the same time, it encapsulates Kalomiris’ vision for creating a Greek National School of Music.
