The word Sonoma carries a rich cultural history originating from both Greek and Latin. It is an amalgamation of the Greek word “soma”, meaning body, and the Latin word “sonus”, meaning sound. The highly acclaimed choreographer Marcos Morau has collaborated with his group La Veronal to create a performance that takes inspiration from the dream world of the famous surrealist filmmaker Luis Buñuel. The piece is a beautiful blend of elements drawn from folklore traditions, religion, cinema, and art history. The dancers’ bodies take centre stage, becoming the means for a magical journey between reality, and imagination and the boundaries between humans and the unreal seem to blur and fade away.
