TRIBUTE TO DIMITRIS MITROPOULOS
A miracle in three acts (in concert form) by the City of Athens Symphony Orchestra & Choir.
The City of Athens Symphony Orchestra & Choir presents in concert form one of the rarely performed works, the only opera ever composed by Dimitris Mitropoulos, “Soeur Béatrice“, with a unique cast of singers from Greece and abroad. It is a religious drama (a “miracle” according to the composer) in three acts to a text by the Belgian symbolist poet Maurice Maeterlinck. The plot is set in a monastery during the 14th century, focusing on Soeur Beatrice’s dilemma between her love for Prince Bellintor and the commitments of monastic life.
