Starting on September 15, the esteemed City of Athens Lycabettus Theatre will be presenting an array of exceptional performances. This legendary venue has stood as a cultural pillar for Athenians for numerous years, acting as a source of inspiration and discovery for fresh music and theatrical movements.
The favourite Hill Theater of Athens has undergone a remarkable transformation, ushering in a new era for the Athenians and visitors to the city. Officially taken over by the City of Athens, the theatre has been meticulously renovated to meet contemporary standards while paying homage to its original design by renowned architect Takis Zenetos. As part of the broader revitalization of the hill, the City of Athens Lycabettus Theatre now offers a safe and unforgettable cultural experience for all those who visit, cementing its status as a true icon of Athens.
The Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, stated: “It’s time to revisit our favourite hill once more. Our memories come flooding back as the iconic open-air theatre of the city is set to reopen its doors in just a few days. The reconstruction was challenging, but the result is well worth our efforts. The program, curated by Technopolis City of Athens, offers a chance for grownups to relive the unforgettable nights they spent at the Lycabettus Theater while younger generations can create their own memories and experiences on Athens’ most enchanting balcony”.
The City of Athens Lycabettus Theatre’s new program features a diverse range of music inspired by the breathtaking panoramic view of the hilltop overlooking the city and sea.
On Friday, September 15, Stavros Xarchakos will be presenting a collection of his work at the “Feast on Lycabettus,” marking the start of a new era for the Theater. This tribute to the great composer, organized by the City of Athens, will feature performances by Manolis Mitsias, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Iro Saia, Zacharias Karounis, and 12 other talented musicians.
Pyx Lax will perform on their favourite hill on September 16 and 21 for two nostalgic nights of timeless songs.
Konstantinos Argyros’ “Elpida Tour” in Greece and Cyprus is set to conclude on Sunday, September 17, at the City of Athens Lycabettus Theatre, where the renowned singer will take the stage amidst the breathtaking backdrop of “his Athens” for the very first time. Alongside Argyros, Andromache, Playmen, Klavdia, and Rack will also grace the event with their presence.
Hauser, the exceptional and innovative cellist who is a distinguished member of the musical duo 2Cellos, is set to mesmerize the crowd with his “Rebel with a Cello” tour. His performances will be held over two nights on Tuesday, September 19 and Wednesday, September 20. Hauser’s repertoire is a fascinating blend of various musical genres that promises to captivate and thrill audiences.
The “Age of Aquarius” concert series by Ioannina City’s Villagers is set to wrap up at the City of Athens Lycabettus Theatre on Friday, September 22, just before their extensive European tour. The event will feature a number of guest performers. On Saturday, September 23, Giorgos Mazonakis will commemorate his 30-year career as a singer with a grand performance at the same venue.
On Sunday, September 24, Giannis Ploutarchos, a renowned artist of his time, will give a remarkable performance with Giorgos Kakosaios and Katerina.
The highly regarded Loukianos Kilaidonis will be making a special appearance at his favourite theatre on Monday, September 25. The musical tribute event, titled “Thank you Loukianos,” promises to be a night to remember, with an impressive lineup of talented performers including Themis Andreadis, Spyros Grammenos, Doros Demosthenous, Jasmine Kilaidonis, Maria Kilaidoni, Nadia Kontogeorgi, Panos Mouzourakis, Penny Baltatzis, Giannis Bezos, Alexandros Bourdoumis, and Manolis Famelos.
Similarly, music fans won’t want to miss Michalis Hatzigiannis on Tuesday, September 26, as he takes the stage at the same theatre where he has given some of his most memorable concerts during his illustrious 24-year career.
Join Giannis Haroulis and his fellow musicians as they conclude their summer tour with two unforgettable performances at the City of Athens Lycabettus Theatre on Thursday, September 28 and Friday, September 29. Experience a fusion of timeless classics and contemporary hits as traditional and modern music come together seamlessly.
On Tuesday, October 3, the Melisses will host their “Melisses forever” tour closing party at the same venue, with special guest Anastasia filling the theatre with their boundless energy.
“Burn the Script” is a comedy show without script or rehearsals, celebrating “10 years of failures.” Lambros Fisfis, Dimitris Makalias, and Zisis Roumpos will perform on Saturday, October 7, with plenty of interaction and improvisation.
On October 9, the talented singers Dimitra Galani, Martha Frintzila, and Eleni Tsaligopoulou will grace the stage with their incredible performance “On a Southern Wave”. Showcasing a mix of traditional, artistic, rebetika, folk, and contemporary songs, this event promises to be a truly unforgettable experience.
The inaugural season of the Lycabettus Theatre in Athens comes to a close on Saturday, October 14, with a one-of-a-kind audiovisual spectacle. Beats Pliz will unveil his latest album, “Arte Povera,” set to the backdrop of a live orchestra, theatrical sets, and video art.
The performance will feature several renowned Greek rap artists, demonstrating how symphonic music can seamlessly blend with the dynamic and free-flowing nature of rap. This groundbreaking live showcase is not to be missed.
