In the age of the digital world and streaming, the charm of vintage melodies continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Postmodern Jukebox undeniably upholds the flag of this trend, constantly piquing interest with their aesthetic and unique approach to music.
The music collective, which has been breathing new life into contemporary hits by transforming their sound into retro memories for at least 13 years, is coming to Greece for a one-of-a-kind musical extravaganza at the Technopolis City of Athens on Tuesday, September 3rd.
The occasion for this unique experience that the Greek audience will have the opportunity to enjoy is the famous concert “Pop Music in a Time Machine,” with which Postmodern Jukebox announced a new world tour to celebrate 2024 with the dual milestone of their 10th tour anniversary and their 1,000th concert.
On September 3rd, Technopolis will become the vehicle for a dazzling and inspiring journey into the PMJ universe, where contemporary earworms and iconic pop hits are reimagined in classic genres such as jazz, swing, doo-wop, and Motown of the 1920s, brought to life by a cast of some of the world’s top singers, dancers, and musicians. It’s where “The Great Gatsby” meets “Sinatra at the Sands,” all together with “Back to the Future.”
When pianist Scott Bradlee started the music collective from a basement apartment in Queens, New York, a viral online success story was born, quickly leading to sold-out performances across North America and Europe in the summer of 2014.
The tour received rave reviews from audiences, the music industry, and world-renowned artists. In the years that followed, PMJ built a reputation as the “Saturday Night Live” of singers, presenting dozens of excellent artists to the public, many of whom had been previously ignored and ridiculed by the recording industry, transforming them into true stars.
Ten years and two billion views on their YouTube channel later, every PMJ performance is like an annual tradition for hundreds of thousands of devoted fans worldwide, fans who often show up dressed in vintage aesthetics, eager to immerse themselves completely in the experience.
“By the end of 2023, PMJ had performed 937 shows in 44 countries across 5 continents,” says Bradlee, proud of his creation as he continues to craft musical arrangements and direct the shows. “All this success over so many years was completely unexpected for us. There is no secret recipe, except perhaps our obsessive love for classic sounds and our commitment to showcasing amazing talents.
We still feel honored and humbled by the love with which our audience surrounds us for this work, which continues to inspire and push us to new heights of art. It is the perfect marriage, and our 10th tour anniversary will be a celebration.”
On Tuesday, September 3rd, at Technopolis City of Athens, we book a seat on Postmodern Jukebox’s musical time machine. Ladies and gentlemen, you’re welcomed.
