Rockwave lives in the rhythm of the city. It’s everywhere!
Rockwave is back more daring, like a teenager and does what it has been known to do for decades: Excite us all. This year, it unfolds, becomes more prominent, and introduces parallel events in Athens downtown. Rockwave invades the city centre and sets up wild parties at the Technopolis, the Rockwave Nights. Party on. PLACEBO, with their exhilaratingly redemptive music, are here!
Placebo are one of the most influential alternative rock bands of the last 20 years, with sales of over 13 million. They have deservedly earned their place in British music history with six top 10 albums in the UK and through collaborations with music legends such as David Bowie, Robert Smith and Michael Stipe. The band’s self-titled debut album brought a significant change to British music, countering the Britpop that dominated at the time and inspiring a generation of bands to follow them. Twelve months after its first single (“Bruise Pristine”), the band released “Nancy Boy”, which went platinum, received rave reviews and marked its later career. Their darkly seductive second album, “Without You I’m Nothing”, sold over a million copies. The album included the Top 5 single “Pure Morning” and the iconic “Every You Every Me”. Thealbum’s run took off when Placebo performed “20th Century Boy” live, with David Bowie, at the BRIT Awards in 1999. In 2000 they released their top electro-punk-pop third album, “Black Market Music”. Devoted Placebo fans on all continents placed “Taste In Men”, “Slave To The Wage”, and “Special K” in the UK and international charts’ Top 20.
Their fourth album, “Sleeping With Ghosts”, released in 2003, went double platinum in France, platinum in Germany and gold in the UK. Their single, “The Bitter End”, became one of the biggest hits in their career. It is one of the two songs (along with Every You and Every Me) they almost always play during their live shows. “Meds”, the fifth album, was released in 2006. It sold over 1.1 million copies worldwide and went platinum in Germany and France and gold in the UK. Placebo’s album “Battle For The Sun”, produced by Dave Bottrill, was released in June 2009. It was a unique, vibrant, dynamic and radical project that marked a new era for the band. They stayed for two weeks at number one on the European Billboard Chart and reached number 1 on the charts in 10 countries and Top 5 on the charts in 20 other countries. At the 2009 MTV European Music Awards, they won the Best Alternative Award, cementing their position as one of the world’s top live rock bands. “Loud Like Love”, released in 2013, was their seventh studio album produced by Adam Noble. It found the band on tour with over 1 million attending their concerts in Australia, Latin America, North America, Europe and Asia.
On October 7, 2016, Placebo celebrated their 20th anniversary with the release of a retrospective album, “A Place For Us To Dream”, and the release of the EP “Life’s What You Make It”, which featured six new tracks, including the single “Jesus’ Son” and Talk Talk’s cover of “Life’s What You Make It”. Their new album “Never Let Me Go” reached #3 in the UK top-10 UK Albums (OCC) and is the first Placebo album to achieve this! Placebo have been in the UK top-10 six times in their career, the last time being with 2009’s Battle for The Sun, which reached
No 8. Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal dug deep to light the life-giving flame for their extremely harrowing eighth album.
In 2022 PLACEBO are back to their beloved Greece to share music and ideas with their fans who never stop yearning for them!
