The City of Athens Central Library is one of the oldest libraries in Greece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was founded by the mayor Anargyros Petrakis in 1835 and is now housed in the traditional building at 2 Domokou Street near Larissa Railway Station. The Library’s collection includes rare publications and consists of 65,000 books on various subjects, a newspaper archive from 1852 to 1999, an archive of 900 Journals from 1849 to the present day, an archive of Official Gazettes from 1833 to 2007, a rich bibliographic and photographic material on the history of the city of Athens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is also worth mentioning that the Library’s collection includes the libraries of major donors like Konstantinos (Agathofronas) Nikolopoulos, Georgios Haritakis, Dimitris Kambouroglou, Elias Tsirimokos and G. & I. Derveniotis, as well as the personal collection of Georgios Vlachos, which was purchased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Users may enjoy two bright and comfortable reading rooms with free internet access (wifi<\/strong>), an electronic catalogue (OPAC) <\/strong>which one may consult by clicking here<\/a>. The Library is a lending library, offering its services free of charge.
