The City Of Athens presents the art of Patchwork, the magic of fabrics, threads, colors, and flowers, at the group exhibition of patchwork works titled “Flower Power – The Power of Flowers”, organized by OPANDA. The exhibition takes place from March 26th to April 21st, 2024, at the City of Athens Museum of Folk Art and Tradition \u201cAggeliki Chatzimichali\u201d. The exhibition features approximately 200 works by artists from countries (Greece, Belgium, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Sweden) who are members of the European Quilting Association, to which the Greek Patchwork Association belongs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The artworks of local national Associations, to be exhibited under the theme “Flower Power” follow specifications set by the European Federation and were first presented in August 2023 in Birmingham, at the largest relevant European exhibition. They then began their journey among member countries, which will last for two years, reaching our city to be exhibited at the City of Athens Museum of Folk Art and Tradition \u201cAggeliki Chatzimichali\u201d aiming to highlight both the collectivity and cooperation among peoples and the promotion of European folk art of patchwork in a museum that serves as a hub for the promotion of European culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The title of the exhibition brings to mind the flower children, the hippies of the 1960s, wanting to remind us of the symbolism of flowers as elements of nature with multifaceted power of regeneration and hope for the world, especially after the great adventure of the pandemic and the ongoing war on European soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Visitors to the exhibition “Flower Power” will feel like strollers in gardens with colors, shapes, ignoring that they are creations made of fabrics and threads, while some will imaginatively return to the 1960s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
