It is a religious drama (a &#8220;miracle&#8221; according to the composer) in three acts to a text by the Belgian symbolist poet Maurice Maeterlinck. The plot is set in a monastery during the 14th century, focusing on Soeur Beatrice&#8217;s dilemma between her love for Prince Bellintor and the commitments of monastic life.
