On Tuesday, October 18, in a joyful atmosphere and a record turnout, the three qualified plays for the “Theater at the Museum – Displacement Stories” competition were presented. The competition, organised in the framework of Culture is Athens, took place at the Industrial Gas Museum, having the Old Retort as a natural backdrop. The plays were inspired by the Industrial Gas Museum and revolved around displacement and refugees, focusing on Athens.
After a joint jury vote, the winner was the play “The Nightwatchman”, a work on friendship written by Kostas Lakis and directed by Lili Sakka (theatrical workshop of Preveza). Inspired by the Asia Minor Catastrophe and having the Industrial Gas Museum as its starting point, the play travelled us to the past, when the factory was still in operation, becoming the hideout of two refugees from Izmir! Their touching and humorous adventures were presented on stage by the talented actors Cosmas Markis and Spyros Papadiotis (theatrical workshop Preveza), who were warmly applauded by the audience.
Stay tuned for the upcoming “Theatre at the Museum” performances at the City of Athens Museum of Folk Art and Tradition “AggelikiChatzimichali” and the City of Athens Art Gallery.
