On Sundays,The City of Athens invites children and grownups to spend quality time, for free, in its museums and cultural venues, and enjoy exciting, creative learning happenings. The next “Sunday in Athens” is on October 16 and will be… salty on the occasion of World Food Day. During the penultimate “Sunday in Athens” for 2022, three venues of the City of Athens Culture, Sports and Youth Organization (OPANDA) and the Industrial Gas Museum of the Technopolis City of Athens will open their doors to welcome children 3-12 years old and their families with outstanding educational programs, dedicated to the “art” of cooking and the magic of food ingredients! Children will make colourful dishes and discover the nutrition pyramid, learn what the Athenians of the last century ate, and “travel” in saltpans worldwide! The actions aim to highlight the meaning and importance of a balanced diet in a fun way.On Sunday, October 16, the following venues will be open to welcome visitors: Industrial Gas Museum, Central Library, City of Athens Museum of Folk Art and Tradition “Aggeliki Chatzimichali” and Cultural Centre “Melina”. Participation is free. Reservation is required for the venue of interest.

Art workshop for families with children 3+
What is your favourite food? Can you cook it by drawing? What colour would it be, and what ingredients would you use? Through a unique sensory experience, children will make their own imaginary recipes, mix colours and components, and add spices and plenty of imagination for more flavour! Finally, they will paint the dishes, the knives and the forks and serve them to us. Enjoy!

The Food Kingdom
Experiential educational program for children 4-10 years old by the team “Chronos: Culture Actions” (Credits: Despina Maragkoudaki- Alexandra Hasani- Sofia Papalouka)
Two servants are looking for a job. After a good breakfast and morning exercise, they arrive in the biggest kingdom in the world. But, being naive, they turn all the food in the pyramid kingdom upside down. Thus, a new war begins between fruits, vegetables and sweets! The Nutrition Queen notices them, and then things get difficult… Will children and servants be able to put the right food in the right rooms and learn about the food pyramid in this way?

A journey around the salty world!
Educational program for children 8-12 years old
Salt… Perhaps the most crucial seasoning people have used in cooking since antiquity! So let’s take a “salty trip” to salt-producing countries worldwide. From the Alps to the Himalayas, from Bolivia to Hawaii and Korea, we will be introduced to the salts of the world! Finally, we will return to Greece to find our salt marshes and seek the role of salt in our daily lives through history, economy and folklore art.
