Alexandros Laios’ exhibition Flipping Coin, is presented by the City of Athens from 14 October to 27 November 2022 at the City of Athens Arts Centre. It is organised by the City of Athens Culture, Sports and Youth Organisation and includes mixed media wall art and a series of sculptures, which operate with or are activated by light.
The abundant light, the absolute light, in combination with the weakness/strength of the human eye, i.e. vision, is a central element of Alexandros Laios’ exhibition Flipping Coin. The title refers to the hovering moment when we watch the coin flipping before it hits the ground rather than the randomness implied by the gesture itself. The title is an implicit comment on our ambivalent attitude towards science, which, according to Laios, is not a panacea for all the ills and difficulties of modern life but an active narrative with an uncertain outcome, like that of coin flipping.
The exhibition is curated by ChristoforosMarinos, an art historian and curator of exhibitions and events organised by OPANDA.
