Six new routes, revealing a different Athens and different city stories, are launched in October by the Athens Culture Net. A much-loved initiative is re-introduced to fascinate the audience once again! Love stories in the neighbourhoods of Kerameikos from the pen and under the guidance of award-winning writer Theodoros Grigoriadis. Eccentric tours, following a “gang” of resourceful grannies who, with the power of Granola and the writing of Nadia Drakoula, attempt to correct injustices!!! Music events and revealing visits to the inner sanctum of the Athens Concert Hall. An “oblique route” by Nadia Georgakopoulou to corners and buildings of Ampelokipi with a unique history. Student routes in the historical buildings of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, with collective and personal memories from the National University of Athens Historical Archive.

Saturday 1 October, Ellie’s Secret

Theodoros Grigoriadis, famous author and winner of the State Literary Prize for Novel, leads us on the trail of an unexpected love story unfolding in the neighbourhoods of Athens. The love life of fifty-year-old Ellie seemed to have reached a dead-end, isolated among books and memories. However, her acquaintance with the younger and married Antonis will lead her to “dangerous paths” with unpredictable consequences. Against the backdrop of Kerameikos, Rouf and Botanikos neighbourhoods, the author and the audience will follow the two heroes around their areas and hang-outs. The route is based on “Ellie’s Secret” (2012, Patakis Publications, nominated for the State Prize for Novel), a novel which touches upon issues like loneliness, unexpected love, and dedication.
