The journey to finding one’s professional identity is often filled with uncertainty and requires a lot of self-reflection. Unfortunately, many young people are expected to navigate this path without sufficient information about the opportunities available in various industries. That’s why the Athens Science Festival 2023 is hosting a Student Edition ASF to inspire students to confidently take the next step and “Shape their future”!
The annual science festival is returning to the Technopolis City of Athens from October 10 to 12. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the latest advancements in science, technology, and art. The festival’s program focuses on showcasing the exciting world of STEM professions (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and the many career paths available.
During their scheduled school visits, Elementary, High School and Lyceum students will be able to admire impressive demonstration experiments and interactive exhibits, participate in experiential workshops and attend speeches by renowned scientists who will fascinate and inspire them. The 3-day event will feature some of the top speakers, including:
• Dr Konstantinos Demetzos, the director of the Pharmaceutical Technology Laboratory at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He will take us on a journey through the fascinating and unseen world of viruses, inspiring students passionate about pharmacy, biology, and chemistry.
• Dr Ioannis Baziotis, associate professor of Mineralogy-Petrology at the Agricultural University of Athens, will share with the students ways in which they can make their dreams come true – whatever they may be, even collecting meteorites with NASA!
• Dr Michael Londesborough, a researcher at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS), will introduce students to the fascinating realm of chemistry. His goal is to demonstrate that a career as a scientific chemist is not limited to the confines of a laboratory. This event is being conducted in partnership with the Czech Centre of Athens.
In the specially designed STEM Career Sessions, students will participate in innovative educational workshops and seminars that will offer them all the necessary “tools” to start a STEM career. More specifically, they will see how they can create a successful public, professional profile, a personal brand highlighting their personality and value, and develop soft skills such as communication and negotiation to launch their career!

The Athens Science Festival 2023 is organised by the educational organisation “Science Communication – SciCo”, the British Council and the Technopolis City of Athens in collaboration with several academic, research and educational organisations.
