Asaf Avidan

“Asaf Avidan is one of the most talented individuals I have ever seen. He sings with complete control over his voice and plays guitar, piano, harmonica, percussion, and Kazoo with incredible skill. He writes songs that are comprised of three or four other songs, and he accurately orchestrates and sets up the band. Avidan moves with a dancer’s grace and speaks with an actor’s skill. In short, he is one of the most well-rounded artists of our time.

Asaf Avidan writes songs about lost loves, changes of direction, old and new hopes, people he has or has never met, and a self that regresses between old and new wounds.

Asaf Avidan embodies contemporary pop music. He draws inspiration from legendary artists such as David Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen, Marc Almond, Lotte Lenya, James Brown, Amy Winehouse, and Bryan Ferry. It’s almost as if he’s in constant conversation with them; somehow, they all sing through him with his distinct voice.

Asaf Avidan is a Berlin interwar cabaret performer who performs alone, without the need for low lighting, special costumes, dancers around him, or Kurt Weill. Asaf Avidan knows well that Art is a Relationship—a relationship with the self and even its most hidden parts, a “Journey to truth and honesty.” A Relationship with the viewer and the listener because even if we did not exist yesterday at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, he would have done exactly the same show. But that would have been an imperfect act. Only the presence and uniqueness of each of us could transform practice into a relationship and, therefore, into Art. That’s precisely what happened.”
