At this year’s World Travel Awards, in Mallorca, Spain, Athens, through the City of Athens Development and Destination Management Agency (ADDMA) was declared Europe’s Leading Cultural City Destination 2022, among significant destinations such as Paris, Rome, London, Lisbon, Edinburgh, Prague and Venice.
The Greek capital was also the winner of Europe’s Leading City Tourist Board Award, a distinction of particular importance, presented to This is Athens -CVB, competing with peer management and promotion agencies of major European cities (Berlin, Madrid, Lisbon, London and Rome).
Europe’s Leading City Tourist Board 2022 award is a testimony to the destination’s successful management and promotion – in the context of the integrated tourism development strategy for the City of Athens – witnessed by the tourist arrivals of the last two years. It is also the culmination of the city’s upward trend in the global ranking in conferences and events since, last year, Athens was ranked 6th in Europe and 8th in the world (according to the International Congress and Convention Association).
This year’s awards gathered more than 2.3 million voting participants, the largest turnout in the institution’s history.
